The proposals:
The phased extraction of soft sand from land near the village of Tubney in Oxfordshire. |
The life of the development is estimated to be 18 years including preparation and restoration. |
Restoration has been considered at length within the constraints of the materials that will be available after mineral extraction, the level of groundwater within the site and the interests of the landowner when the land is returned post extraction. |
The area to be extracted is around 17.3ha and will yield approximately 900,000 tonnes of mineral. |
Soft sand will be dug using loading shovels and excavators which operate to the latest Euro 6 European standards in terms of emissions. |
Maintaining mineral activities in the area will secure around 10 jobs directly plus additional work to other local businesses. It is estimated that Upwood Quarry currently contributes £1.6 million to the local economy annually. Tubworth Quarry will be a replacement for Upwood Quarry at the end of its period of permissable use. |
Special considerations:
The A420 shall be widened to accommodate a ghost-island right-turn lane and a new site access shall be constructed. |
The restoration proposed will introduce a wide range of new habitats giving substantial gain to the wider environment, as well as including productive agricultural land. |
